Sustainable Agriculture Project (SAP)
Bangladesh is an agro-based developing country. But due to globalization and corporate impact on agricultural sector, the farmers are deprived in their own field. To ensure the sustainable agriculture and farmer’s rights, SUS have been implementing different activities in the working area from the beginning. SUS wants to ensure not only food security but also food sovereignty. For ensuring food rights, SUS works for capacity building of local farmers and community people. It promotes local crops, fruits and medicinal plant at the grassroots level.

Objectives
To disseminate the appropriate and environmental friendly technologies to the target people and to crate scope for agricultural IGAs
To produce, preserve the local seed and reduce dependence on hybrid and genetically modified seed
To reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and to promote the use of sustainable alternatives
To aware the maximum use of their local resources
To initiate an active aware group against environmental threat and harmful state policies and sectoral interests
Activities
Research: The research-based activities are conducted in the Agricultural Model Farm (AMF) (Total area: 7 acre, Rice cultivation: 4.5 acre, Fish cultivation: 0.5 acre, Local Fruit: 0.25 acre and Medicinal plant: 0.1 acre) of SUS and field level.
Awareness building and information supply:
a) Meeting: Monthly meeting was held.
b) Seminar: A day-long seminar on "Agrarian Reform: Bangladesh Perspective" aiming at developing the quality of human livelihood through agriculture was held in the conference room of Sabalamby Unnayan Samity (SUS). The seminar was presided over by Chairman of SUS, Rowshan Akhter while Deputy Director of District Agricultural Extension Department (DAE) R.I.M. Aminur Rahman Siddique attended as the chief guest. Professor Dr. Abdul Momen Miah of Department of Agricultural Extension Education, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh delivered his speech as the chief speaker.
Capacity building: SUS provided training on integrated farming, compost preparation and use, local seed production, collection and preservation.
Demonstration:
Ecological rice cultivation: 50 nos.
Ecological vegetable cultivation: 50 nos.
School gardening: SUS selected two schools for school gardening in Netrakona Sadar upazila: Parla Govt. Primary School, Parla in Munacipality and Kandulia Govt. Primary School, Kandulia in Singher Bangla union.

Sustainable LIvelihood for Poor Producers (SLIPP)
SLIPP works with the poor producers to create business-friendly environment for poverty reduction. It starts from 2008 for strengthening the capacity of the poor farmers to sustain their agro-based business.
Overall objective
To reduce poverty of the farmers through income generating activities and employment generation.
Specific objectives
to build up business capacity of the beneficiary
to ensure access to business-friendly services
to influence the policy makers for business-friendly environment of the farmers
Working area
Netrakona sadar, Kendua, Purbadhala and Madon
Total beneficiary: 400 nos.
Vegetable producer- 250 nos., Duck rearing and hatchery- 150 nos.
Achievement
Groups (vegetable: 11 and duck: 3) are formed and executive committee of the groups is selected
One vegetable group and one duck group are registered.
Capital is formed by savings accumulation and it is utilized for income generation activities.
Established linkage with govt. service providers and retailers.
Organized Rural Agricultural Fair by the initiatives of the group members.
6 farmers are trained as Soil Collector and two demonstrations on Soil Test were held.

Analysis of Research on Soil Test
Benefits
- Apply right quantity of chemical and organic fertilizer as per crop requirements
- Usually 25-30% less use of chemical fertilizer results in less production cost
- Increase 15-20% productivity result in higher profit
- Retain soil fertility by applying appropriate dose of chemical fertilizer and organic
fertilizer
- Improve physical, chemical and organic characteristics of soil
